October 26th, 2020 Costa Rica Tourism & Immigration Update COVID19

Last Thursday, October 22th, authorities announced that they are going to eliminate the negative coronavirus test requirement for foreign tourists.
The Minister of Tourism declared that touristic traffic has not been a source of COVID-19 contagion, that is why starting on October 26, arriving visitors will no longer need to show proof of a negative PCR coronavirus test result. Also, nationals and residents will not be required to quarantine.
Travelers who want to enter the country will still need to purchase travel medical insurance and complete the Health Pass form. The insurance must be a policy from INS, Sagicor, or a foreign policy that covers COVID-19 medical expenses and extended lodging.
Segura also confirmed the decision to reopen air borders to all the countries beginning November 1st, 2020. This is a developing matter. Even though the government has made the announcement, we are waiting for the official decree to be issued.
We will provide additional information related to this topic once we have access to the decree.
Requirements for tourists entering Costa Rica
Tourists wishing to enter Costa Rica via a flight must comply with these requirements:
- Complete the online “Health Pass” epidemiological form: https://salud.go.cr.
- Obtain travel insurance. This can be either a pre-approved Costa Rican policy from INS or Sagicor, or an international policy that covers COVID-19 medical expenses of at least $50,000 and $2,000 for lodging.
Tourists must have remained in an authorized country for at least 14 days before travel.
Until November 1, U.S. residents must show a driver’s license or State ID indicating they live in an authorized state. As of November 1, this will no longer be necessary, as all U.S. states will be authorized.
