Can A Foreigner Buy Property In Costa Rica?

Yes they can! Foreigners have the same right as Nationals when it comes to purchasing real estate in Costa Rica. All you need is a valid Passport. Properties can be held in your name or in a Costa Rica corporation. All titled property is registered in the National Registry.

How To Obtain A Costa Rican Permanent Residency:

  1. Purchasing $150,000 worth of property in Costa Rica or
  2. Deposit $60,000 in an approved Costa Rica bank or
  3. Monthly pension income in retirement of at least $1000. In Costa Rica this is called a “Pensionado.”

4. Still employed? A steady monthly income of $2500 qualifies for residency.  In Costa Rica this is called a “Crentista.”
